Our Programs
The Central Illinois Continuum of Care works with our broader community and Continuum members to address our local homelessness crisis by partnering with multiple agencies that share our goals. This work aids our neighbors through a variety of programs tailored to individuals’ specific needs.
Runaway and Homeless Youth
Homelessness affects everyone differently. For homeless youth, the path to permanent housing can be especially difficult to navigate. Youth homelessness is widespread and often invisible. For most young people, homelessness is not a choice. It is frequently the result of family instability, systemic barriers, poverty, and discrimination. Over two-thirds of young people with experience of homelessness say that a family breakdown was the main reason, or one of several reasons, they became homeless. Homeless youth are frequently found couch surfing from one friend’s or stranger’s home to another, staying in shelters or hotels, and sleeping outside or in places not meant for living.
